  • ACC treatments:

We hold a rural ACC contract which requires all our clinical staff to be trained for accident and emergency care. ACC funding covers the majority of your visit, but you can expect to be billed a surcharge. This fee will be less for any follow up visits.

  • These can be booked with one of our Registered Nurses.

  • A cardiovascular health check is one way to monitor how your heart is. It involves an appointment with one of our RNs to gather relevant medical history, take some basic measurements, and draw blood. Once the blood results return, you will be given feedback on your hearth health.

The recommended age to offer CVD Risk Assessment varies by age, gender, ethnicity, and related risk factors. Contact the surgery if you would like to know more.

  • The practice is provided with funding to improve chronic care management, reduce inequalities, improve primary health are teamwork and reduce the cost of services for high-need patients.

Provided you meet certain criteria, and there is funding available, many of your clinic visits may be free. Enquire with your GP as to whether you might be eligible.

  • The NZ health system has made several changes to its Cervical Screening program.

The first being that the initial screening age has increased from 20 to 25 years. The second is that most screening is by HPV swab and can often be done by the patient, however full cervical screening is still required in some cases.

Our nursing staff can answer any questions you might have.

  • Regular blood tests are paramount to keeping track of your diabetic health.

HBA1C blood testing is recommended every three months and a full diabetic check (includes blood and urine testing plus a foot check) should be done annually.

For the most part these are not a government funded service but can often be incorporated with a Care Plus visit if the correct criteria are met.

  • Oak House Medical Centre is excited to be part of a Health NZ Pilot aimed at providing clinical assessment and care interventions for people and whanau at greatest risk of poor health outcomes.

The primary focus is for Maori and Pacific patients, but the pilot also encompasses the vulnerabilities faced by our patients because of our rural location.

Our ECP will take on activities like phone triage, urgent care and helping manage patients’ health concerns in the community.

As the role evolves, we expect to utilise more of the skills our ECP has to offer, all of which is of benefit to our patients.

  • We intend to treat all urgent medical needs in an appropriate and timely manner. If you think your matter is urgent, please let the reception staff know so they can take the appropriate triage path, which will likely be via one of our Registered Nurses. However, there are many things our reception staff can take care of without involvement from the nurse – like prescription requests and messages for the GP.
